Why is this happening?

Intuit QuickBooks has made the business decision to dedicate product development to QuickBooks Online Payroll (formerly Standard Payroll) moving forward. As a result, QuickBooks Online Advanced Payroll will no longer be available in QuickBooks Online. Wagepoint will now step out from behind the scenes and manage your payroll directly from end to end.

How do I get started with Wagepoint?

If you an English-speaking client, after November 27, 2020, instead of going to QuickBooks Online to run payroll, you'll sign in directly to Wagepoint. If you are a French-speaking client, you will do the same in December 11, 2020. Prior to these dates, we will e-mail login instructions along with other communications to ensure a smooth process.

Do I need to create a new Wagepoint account?

No. Creating a new Wagepoint account by yourself may cause a delay. Instead, you will receive an email from us notifying you when your historical payroll data is available to be accessed in Wagepoint — this email will include step-by-step instructions on how to log in.

Will my service be interrupted?

To ensure that all your historical data, up to your last payroll, is accurate as of November 27, 2020 — process your final payroll in QuickBooks Online Advanced Payroll according to the guidelines below:

  • 12:00 PM EST November 24, 2020 (3 business days prior) for direct deposit.
  • 12:00 PM EST November 27, 2020 for paper cheques.

Please also make sure that ALL necessary employee and contractor profiles are complete and have an active status in QuickBooks Online Advanced Payroll before November 27.

  • If a worker’s profile is currently incomplete (in other words, you’ve only input their first and last name), their data WILL NOT be available in Wagepoint — only complete (active) employee and contractor profiles will be accessible.

  • Employee and contractor profiles can be found in the QuickBooks Online Advanced Payroll dashboard — look for the table that houses all worker profiles. (Tip: You can filter for ALL inactive employees or contractors).

  • Incomplete profiles have:

    • An orange bar next to the worker’s name.

    • Incomplete under Status.

  • An (!) alert icon will appear in tabs with missing information within the worker’s profile.

  • For more details on the information needed to complete a profile, see this help article from Intuit QuickBooks.

Your access will be disrupted briefly for approximately 24 to 36 hours while Wagepoint configures the data. When it’s time to sign in, you’ll receive an e-mail from Wagepoint letting you know that you can run your next payroll.  Please communicate with your employees that they will also receive instructions from us to access the employee portal.

What if I've already disconnected my QuickBooks Online Advanced Payroll account?

You will need to reconnect your QuickBooks Online Advanced Payroll account in order to run your final payroll before November 27, 2020. Here are instructions from Intuit on how to reconnect your account:

Which payroll data will be accessible in Wagepoint?

All of your payroll information, including  year-to-date amounts, income and deduction codes and all previous reporting will be accessible directly through Wagepoint.

I don't want to use Wagepoint. What options do I have?

If you want to keep your payroll in QuickBooks Online, you can move to QuickBooks Online Payroll (formerly Standard Payroll). It has many of the same features of QuickBooks Online Advanced Payroll (which is the version you’re using now).

Will I need to issue ROEs as part of the move?

Good news, you will not have to issue ROEs for each employee. Wagepoint has confirmed with Service Canada that no Change of Payroll Provider ROEs are required.

How will this affect year-end T4s and T4As?

As all of your historical payroll data will be now be accessible through Wagepoint, as long as you complete your last payroll before November 27, 2020, the information in your T4s/T4As should be correct. Wagepoint will also generate and submit these documents at no additional charge.*

Will my business bank account require validation from Wagepoint?

Actually, in QuickBooks Online Advanced Payroll, business bank accounts were verified by Wagepoint. As a result, your banking information will not require any further verification.

What if I’m an accountant or bookkeeper?

Intuit QuickBooks and Wagepoint are working together to identify accountants and bookkeepers. Whether you have a single client or multiple small business clients that you run payroll for, all their data will be accessible in Wagepoint under a single account. If you have multiple small business clients that you run payroll for, you’ll receive an invite to connect one-on-one with Wagepoint to discuss how to set you up with an accountant dashboard and connect all your sub-accounts.

To get yourself familiar with Wagepoint, check out our Accountants & Bookkeepers section.

What if I’m a French user?

Historical payroll data for French-language customers will be accessible directly through Wagepoint starting December 11, 2020. As this date approaches, you will begin to receive more information. Your first communications will come from Intuit QuickBooks. Subsequent communications about how to access your data and run payroll will come from Wagepoint. For more details, click here.

Yes! Our Leave Behind provides an overview of the migration as well as what happens if you want to choose QuickBooks Online Standard Payroll. The resource outlines key points in text and bullets and then recaps in a table.
